Pizza lovers: Meet Dom, the computer-generated male voice now taking orders on Domino's food ordering app.
The pizza chain said the updated function, available for iPhone and Android devices, delivers a "human-like, conversational" experience.
Pizza fans won't have to worry about falling in love or developing a bromance with Dom, though. He lacks the lustiness of Samantha, the computer generated voice in "Her" and doesn't have a sassy streak, like Apple's "Siri."
Dom is all business. He won't flirt or answer questions like, "What's your favorite pizza topping?"
However, he's polite enough, and even encouraging during the pizza ordering process.
Hungry people can get to know Dom by logging into the Domino's app and pressing the smiley microphone icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
He understands the nuances between sauces such as "robust inspired tomato sauce" versus "barbecue sauce" and whether you want a "hand tossed" or "gluten-free crust," among other choices.
After choosing a pizza size, crust and sauce, it came time to tell Dom what pizza toppings we wanted. He complimented our selection of black olives and mushrooms as "fine choices."
Dom likes pepperoni, too. When we added them he said, "Yum!"
After Dom makes sure his customer has everything they want, it's time to move on to the checkout screen and complete the transaction for carry-out or delivery.
Dom may not be the life of the party, but he does know how to get the job done. The pizza chain's CEO told the Associated Press that the function is a work in progress.
"This is the sort of thing, like any other really new technology launch, you're going to learn, you're going to get better," Patrick Doyle said.
One last note on Dom: He also doesn't understand anger or frustration, so be patient with the guy. He's still learning.
