Eli Manning Needs a Hug; Josh Hutcherson Wants a 'Hunger Games' Threesome

It's not always enough to know what's "trending." It kind of helps to know why. Welcome to the Social Climber, where we provide a quick primer on the people, places and things that are being feverishly searched and shared online -- and try to make sense of it all.

Poor Eli Manning.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning continues to mesmerize the Social Climber. Earlier this year he showed off his rap skills in a DirecTV commercial, and after a devastating loss against the Chicago Bears Thursday night, he also proved that big guys can get a little misty-eyed.

Awww.

Manning seemed on the verge of tears after his team, which is 0-6 this season, lost once again.

"It's frustrating," he said at a news conference after the game. "I feel like I'm not doing my part to give this team some wins, and some chances, and so that's the frustrating part. I feel like our guys are fighting hard, and guys are doing their parts, and I need to start doing mine."

Chin up, big guy.

"Hunger Games" star Josh Hutcherson thinks a threesome might help ease tensions in the trilogy's love triangle.

"I know Peeta would be into it, for sure. He's very sensitive, in touch with his emotions," Hutcherson told "Out" magazine of his character, who pines after heroine Katniss Everdeen.

"I think it really might solve a lot of their problems. You know what? I'm going to pitch that idea. Let's make it a -- what's it called when three people are in a relationship together? A triad?" he said. "That'll go over well with Middle America."

That Katniss is one lucky lady.

Geeks with basic cable will no longer have to forage for clips of HBO's "Game of Thrones" online.

HBO made a la carte episodes of the fantasy show available this week for purchase in the Google Play store.

If "Game of Thrones" isn't quite your flavor, other HBO shows are available for purchase, including "The Newsroom," "Veep," "Girls," "Boardwalk Empire" and "True Blood."

After 15 seasons of solving especially heinous crimes, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" star Richard Belzer is turning in his badge.

Don't expect the street-smart detective to live the retiree life in Florida, though. It has been reported that the door has been left open for Munch to appear in future episodes as a guest star.

Belzer, 69, began playing the cynical cop on "Homicide: Life on the Street" in 1993. Since then, he has made appearances as Munch on other shows, ranging from "The X-Files" to "Arrested Development."

Look out for Sgt. Munch's retirement party in the Oct. 16 episode of SVU.

The Loneliest Planet

Astronomers have discovered an outcast planet where the sun doesn't shine and where (presumably) sad violins play on a never-ending loop.

The "strange" and "lonely" free-floating planet is 80 light years away from Earth.

"We have never before seen an object free-floating in space that that looks like this. It has all the characteristics of young planets found around other stars, but it is drifting out there all alone," said Dr. Michael Liu, an astronomer at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

You know what they say: One is the loneliest number.

Comedian Craig Robinson's vacation to the Bahamas wasn't all mai tais and beaches.

The actor, who is best known for his role as Darryl Philbin on NBC's "The Office," was detained Wednesday when he allegedly tried to board a flight back to the United States with a small amount of marijuana and pills in his possession, according to The Associated Press.

Robinson, who could have faced up to four years in a Bahamian prison, was instead slapped with a $1,000 fine and ordered to leave the country, according to the AP.

The Social Climber can think of no greater torture than spending four years locked in a Bahamian prison being so close (yet so far!) from those famous beaches.
