Bachmann had been a Brazos County Deputy since 1993 and had served as a constable for 13 years, according to ABC affiliate WFAA.

Just before 12:30 p.m. CDT the university issued an electronic alert, warning students of an "active shooter" in a residential area near the school's football stadium.

By 12:44 p.m CDT, students were alerted that the gunman was in custody but to continue to avoid the area.
