Now we move on at this moment, some 50 separate fires in ten states are burning tonight. Wildfire experts declaring what is called a level five, something they have not done in five years. It means the fires are so bad the nation's firefighters are stretched to the limit. Abc's aditi roy is tracking it all. Reporter: A 1200 gallon water bomb dangerously close to home. It's the latest battle in beaver creek idaho that threatened 7500 homes. He gets a signal and a chopper baring water is on its way as nervous homeowners watch. This fire is just 100 feet from a very expensive home. The helicopter crew has to act with precision. This is one of 51 wildfires burning across the west, from oregon, to california, to utah. For the first time in five years authorities have raised the preparedness level to five, the highest on the scale. There have been so many lightning strikes sparking fires and they say more to come. So far this fire season is relatively tame. On average by this date nearly 6 million acres burn. This year it's just under 3.5 million. This time of year authorities urge homeowners in fire zones to do everything they can to protect their property. It has to be terrifying. It is. This thing can go up like a match box, you know, very quickly. Reporter: As firefighters attack the smoldering mountain behind me, officials tell me they are finally getting a handle on this wildfire in idaho. The weather is a big factor.
