The president's comments were meant as a compliment, saying that she was good looking, but they triggered quite a backlash and he was forced to do something presidents rarely do. Say "i'm sorry." She's also a long time friend and supporter of the president. But when mr. Obama gave harris a shoutout during a closed door fund-raiser yesterday, his language struck some as inappropriate. Today, the white house said the president apologized to harris. He fully recognizes the challenges women continue to face in the workplace and they should not be based upon appearance.
