he can meet the high levels of his two predecessors. Abc news has learned that police have questioned new england patriots star, aaron hernand hernandez, in connection with the apparent murder of a man he knew. Police searched his massachusetts home. And lindssey davis is there with the latest on this story. Good morning, linsey. Reporter: Good morning, elizabeth. There was a flurry of police activity here overnight. This morning, all is quiet at the hernandez home. And police are quick to say that hernandez is not a suspect. But a car rented in his name could be a key source of evidence. Overnight, police with a warrant spent several hours searching the million-dollar mansion of new england patriots tight end aaron hernandez. Abc news has learned the 23-year-old rising star was also questioned by investigators. All in connection with the apparent murder of a man sources say was his close associate. I think he's a great player. The kids look up to him. I hope he's not involved in in this in any way. Reporter: The body was discovered monday afternoon, in an industrial park one mile from the pro player's home. He was not buried. He was just lying there. He was either dropped there or killed there. Reporter: Sources tell abc news, a rental car with rhode island license plates was found near the crime scene. That car was later linked to hernandez, though it's not clear how. Sources say hernandez was initially uncooperative. But apparently is now talking. He has not been named a suspect. Hernandez was drafted in 2010 from the university of florida. Last year, he signed a five-year contract extension with the patriots, which could be worth as much as $40 million. Early tuesday evening, two people tried to leave hernandez's house as investigators were searching it. The men were stopped by state police at the end of the driveway and were escorted away. Their car was later searched. Hernandez's agent declined to comment overnight. A spokesperson for the patriots told abc news they were aware of the reports but would not be commenting publicly during an ongoing investigation.
