November 13, 2014 — -- Former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton spent Wednesday night engaged in a light “war of words” on their social media accounts.

Bill Clinton tweeted a photo of himself Wednesday afternoon reading George W. Bush’s newly released book, “A Portrait of My Father.” He chided his successor in the tweet for failing to jump on the Twitter bandwagon:

Bush does indeed have a Twitter handle: @GeorgeWBush. A George W. Bush Foundation spokesman confirmed to CNN in 2009 that the foundation was holding the twitter name @GeorgeWBush. But the account is not verified, and does not appear to have ever been used.

But even if Bush, 68, lacks a Twitter presence, he is a regular Instagram user; his account shows he has 94 posts and he used that platform to respond to Clinton, 68:

Thanks, 42! Hope you like the book about your pal, #41. #HowAreYouSTILLNotOnInstagram #PresidentialGrammers #BrotherFromAnotherMothe"

(Evidently, he knows how to screenshot a tweet, even if he has never sent one out).

Spokesmen for both Bush and Clinton confirmed that they are involved in all of their social media postings.

"He may not always the one typing out every caption, but his posts are very much his own," a spokesman for Bush wrote in an e-mail to ABC News.

When asked whether Bill Clinton would now consider joining Instagram, his spokesman responded that "the speculation is going to have to continue."
