"World News Tonight with David Muir" Grows from Year Ago Week in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” averaged 8.231 million Total Viewers, 1.817 million Adults 25-54 and 1.327 million Adults 18-49 for the week of March 28, 2016, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

“World News Tonight” saw gains on the year-ago week (7.997 million and 1.286 million, respectively, w/o 3/30/15) in Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%).

For the 2nd week in a row, “World News Tonight” was up from the previous week (8.168 million and 1.280 million, respectively, w/o 3/21/16) in Total Viewers (+1%) and Adults 18-49 (+4%).

Season to date, “World News Tonight” is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+4,000 - 8.779 million vs. 8.775 million).  Growing for the 4th straight year, “World News Tonight” is delivering its largest overall viewer audience in 8 years – since the 2007-08 season.

“World News Tonight” is narrowing its Total Viewer season margin with “NBC Nightly News” nearly in half (-47% - 263,000 vs. 498,000), posting its closest overall viewer performance with the NBC program in 8 years – since the 2007-08 season.

“World News Tonight” narrowed its week-to-week margins with “NBC Nightly News” by double digits across all key target demos: Total Viewers (-36% - 355,000 vs. 557,000), Adults 25-54 (-41% - 163,000 vs. 276,000) and Adults 18-49 (-48% - 114,000 vs. 220,000).

World News Tonight” ranked as the No. 1 newscast in Adults 18-49, leading “NBC Nightly News,” on Thursday (+8,000 – 1.237 million vs. 1.229 million on 3/31/16) and Friday (+99,000 – 1.345 million vs. 1.246 million on 4/1/16).

For the week, “World News Tonight” beat the “CBS Evening News” by 1.237 million Total Viewers, by 214,000 Adults 25-54 and by 209,000 Adults 18-49.
