"World News Tonight with David Muir" Ranks No. 1 on Thursday and Friday in Total Viewers

ABC News’  “World News Tonight with David Muir” averaged 8.875 million Total Viewers, 2.059 million Adults 25-54 and 1.440 million Adults 18-49 for the week of February  22, 2016, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research.

“World News Tonight” stood as the No. 1 newscast on Thursday (2/25/16), outperforming “NBC Nightly News,” in both Total Viewers (+430,000 – 8.994 million vs. 8.564 million) and Adults 25-54 (+151,000 – 2.068 million vs. 1.917 million).  “World News Tonight” also ranked No. 1 on Friday (2/26/16) in Total Viewers, leading the NBC program by 120,000 (7.661 million vs. 7.541 million).  In fact, “World News Tonight” has stood as the most-watched newscast on Thursday and Friday for the 4th straight week.

Season to date, “World News Tonight” is narrowing its Total Viewer season margin with “NBC Nightly News” by more than half (-54% - 257,000 vs. 559,000), posting its closest overall viewer performance with the NBC program in 8 years – since the 2007-08 season.

“World News Tonight” improved over the previous week in Adults 25-54 (+1% - 2.059 million vs. 2.047 million on w/o 2/15/16).

For the 5th consecutive week, “World News Tonight” cut its week-to-week margin with “NBC Nightly News” in Adults 25-54 (-24% - 99,000 vs. 130,000), delivering its closest news demo finish with the NBC program in 8 weeks – since w/o 12/28/15.

“World News Tonight” narrowed its year-to-year margins with “NBC Nightly News” in both Total Viewers (-81% - 38,000 vs. 198,000) and Adults 18-49 (-11% - 131,000 vs. 148,000).

For the week, “World News Tonight” beat the “CBS Evening News” by 1.203 million Total Viewers, by 261,000 Adults 25-54 and by 220,000 Adults 18-49.
