Aug 15, 2013— -- On Tuesday rapper Big Sean released "Control", a song that isn't going to be featured on his upcoming album Hall Of Fame. The song featured a verse by Compton native and 2012's biggest rap sensation Kendrick Lamar that didn't fly too well with the hip-hop community... or did it?

In his verse, Kendrick Lamar declares himself "king of New York, king of the coast," basically saying he runs hip-hop music on both coasts -- and birthing a pretty fantastic meme.

Lamar also uses a few lines of his verse to call out several rappers by name and let them know pretty clearly that they're the competition. He says he has love for them (aw), but he's trying to murder them (professionally, of course). He continues by saying he wants their "core fans" to forget who they are and raise the bar high.

What at first was a Twitter frenzy full of K-Dot hate tweets eventually simmered down to a social media conversation about the future of rap. Big names in the game -- like Missy f*cking Elliott -- supported Lamar's verse. That has to mean something, right?
