20/20 Investigation: Scandal inside the Peace Corps

Jan. 10, 2011 — -- Kate Puzey was a beloved Peace Corps volunteer in the African country of Benin when she was brutally murdered.

Her parents and the people in the village where she served still ask, why would anyone want to kill Kate?

An ABC News 20/20 investigation to air this Friday uncovers a scandal within the Peace Corps involving Kate's attempt to blow the whistle on a Peace Corps employee she suspected of raping seventh-grade girls.

As chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross reports, it is a story of bravery and betrayal -- of Kate's brave attempt to stop abuse of her students and the betrayal by someone at the regional Peace Corps headquarters of Kate's secret role.
