Feb. 27, 2008— -- Al Qaeda's No. 2 in command, Ayman al Zawahri, warns the killing of an al Qaeda field commander in Afghanistan will be avenged in a video posted Wednesday.

Zawahri's warning came in a 10-minute eulogy over the death of Abu Laith al-Libi. In it, Zawahri refers to al-Libi as a "knight who only dismounted from his steed's back in order to join the blessed caravan of the martyrs."

Zawahri warns Americans and their agents that never "has our blood been spilled without a response."

Libyan al Libi served as an al Qaeda field commander and spokesman. He was considered to be responsible for al Qaeda's military operations in Afghanistan, according to intelligence officials.

A U.S. missile strike over Pakistan in January killed al-Libi.
