Carrie Underwood Dishes on Married Life
Country superstar dishes on husband Mike Fisher and settling down.
Nov. 2, 2010— -- She's the music phenomenon whose star just keeps rising.
"I work hard and at the end of the day, it's all about the music," Carrie Underwood told ABC News' Robin Roberts. "It's all about ... being on tour, and it's about the people that you sing in front of every night."
In five short years, Underwood's "American Idol" win seems a distant memory. The 27-year-old artist is now an undisputed country superstar with four Grammy wins and a list of accolades. This year she became the only female country star to win the coveted ACM Entertainer of the Year award twice, and she surpassed Kelly Clarkson to become the biggest selling "Idol" winner of all time. She's also headlining her own sold-out, 82-city concert tour for her latest album, "Play On."
"We wanted people to come and say, 'I just saw an awesome concert,'" Underwood told Roberts when the two sat down for an interview at her Dallas, Texas, show. "I feel like we put it together in a way that it's not distracting, and it's not ... overbearing, it's all good. It works together."
With four No. 1 hits on her latest album, Underwood has had a big year, both musically and personally. This summer, Underwood tied the knot to Canadian pro-hockey player Mike Fisher.
"It was difficult and weird to basically plan a wedding around a tour and around a hockey season, but we did it," Underwood said.
The private ceremony was held at a hotel in Greensboro, Ga., and then the newlyweds set off for a romantic honeymoon in Tahiti. It wasn't long before they were hit with the reality of their new life together -- or mostly apart.
"As soon as we got back, he went to Canada. So it was like ... 'See ya', husband.' It was very strange," Underwood said. "I really don't feel like I've lived married life yet. ... It's great. Whatever it is. Whatever this is."
Whatever it is, Underwood is happy with her man.
"He's a perfect balance of a manly man and like a best friend," she said. "He's a rugged man. He chops wood and he's outdoors and all that stuff, and he plays hockey, but ... he also like loves to go shopping."
Underwood told Roberts that she sent Fisher, then her boyfriend, a package to his hockey locker room with a note, "Cookies for my Cupcake," and his teammates made fun of him afterward, calling him "cupcake."
"I totally knew [that] was going to happen. That's why I did it," Underwood joked.
"He's a hockey player," Roberts scolded. "You can't do that to him!"

Despite their star status, the couple has tried to stay under the radar, preferring to spend time together or in the company of close friends.
"On a Friday night, I'd rather go see a movie with friends or ... like get together and play board games, or, something silly like that than go ... party it up some place," she said. "I'd rather be in my pajamas hanging out with the people that I love."
Busy with her new album, tour, special appearances, charity work, even acting, Underwood said the couple has no plans yet to start a family.
"We just want to be together and keep it as simple as possible. And I think a baby would just make things so complicated right now," she said.
When the tour wraps up in December, the star plans to settle down in Canada with her new husband.
"I'll be more home-based. So I'll get to spend, you know, my days with him," she said. "We'll be more like a normal couple."
