— -- Today, country icon Blake Shelton took to Twitter to pay homage to his late brother Richie 25 years after his death.

"Wow...25 years ago today we lost my brother Richie Shelton. He's still my hero going strong. Wish everyone could've known him," he wrote on Twitter.

Shelton grew up in Oklahoma and is the youngest of three kids. He spoke out about his brother's 1990 car accident last year to "60 Minutes." Richie died when Shelton was 14 years old.

"I remember picking up the phone...to call him, to tell him something I just saw on TV or, and it was like constantly a shock to me that he was dead," he said in the interview.

Shelton added that his brother's death is something he will never get over. He wrote about his brother in his song with ex-wife Miranda Lambert called "Over You."
