— -- Bono is determined that the U2 concerts in Paris will go on.

In the wake of the deadly terrorist attacks there, the group's frontman said they are ready to inspire and move audiences at the Dec. 6 and 7 concerts.

"Well, knowing our French audience and having a sense of them by now, I would say joy as an act of defiance," he told The Associated Press in an interview about what concert-goers can expect. "That's what U2 does, that's what French people want from us and that's it."

He added, "They took a lot of lives we're not going to get back, but they're not going to change the character of the city of Paris."

U2 had been scheduled to perform in Paris Nov. 14, the day after the tragic terror attacks that left 130 dead and hundreds injured.

Bono praised the U.S. rock band Eagles of Death Metal, which was performing at the Bataclan theater, when armed gunmen opened fire, killing scores. "They've been through the most ugly nightmare and they have been very graceful about it," the rock star said.

As for the audience U2 expects next week, Bono said, "These are our people and they're very familiar faces, the people in the audience, they're our people. They're like my daughter, my son, they're like 9U2 members) Edge, they're like Larry (Mullen Jr.) ... so we took it very badly."

"But we're going back, you bet," he stated. "Nothing will stop us from going back."

The Dec. 7 show will later be broadcast on HBO.
