March 5, 2014— -- Late-night TV comedian Conan O’Brien will host the 2014 MTV Movie Awards next month in Los Angeles.

The TBS host made the announcement during his show "Conan" on Tuesday night.

"After eight years of intense negotiations, I am honored to announce I am hosting MTV’s second most prestigious awards show,” he joked.

The show will take place April 13 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

O'Brien has revved up an impressive fan base since the launch of teamcoco.com in 2010. His online presence includes a YouTube channel, which averages more than 40 million views per month and a Twitter account with over 10 million followers.

Today the comedian tweeted: "I'm excited to host the MTV #MovieAwards on 4/13! I was going to say no, but @Harry_Styles begged me. Please don't ask him to confirm this."

O’Brien is no stranger to awards shows. He served as emcee of the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2002 and 2006.
