'Duck Dynasty' Stars John Luke Robertson and Wife Mary Kate on Being 'Open' in New Book

— -- It's official. "Duck Dynasty" star John Luke Robertson is a published author.
His book, "Young and Beardless: The Search for God, Purpose and a Meaningful Life," was released by publisher Thomas Nelson earlier this week and the author himself, joined by his wife Mary Kate, spoke to ABC News about the "long journey" of crafting the publication.
The couple said they couldn't be more excited about its release. Robertson, 20, explained it took about a year to write and "when the process is over and a real book is finally here, it’s a great feeling."
The book is inspired by the couple's relationship, with Robertson telling ABC News it starts before they got engaged and ends with their getting married last June.
"There are so many good chapters in John Luke’s book, but I guess I have to say one of my favorites is Chapter One, where he tells about our beginning,” Mary Kate said. “The point of chapter one is knowing who you are."
Mary Kate admits that putting her life out there like John Luke wasn't easy at first.
"I didn’t grow up with a camera around me like John Luke did so it is different for me, but I know John Luke has things he wants to share with others and that means being open about our lives," she said. "It’s hard, but it’s not the hardest thing in the world. I’m happy that John Luke wants to speak into the lives of others and it’s definitely worth it."
As for John Luke, he said the hardest chapters to put down were about failure, but was still very important nonetheless.
"It’s never easy to admit failure so writing about those times that didn’t quite work out like I wanted them to were hard in some ways," he said. "But I have a strong belief that God is always with me. ... Still it’s never easy reliving decisions that went wrong."
The couple is more in love than ever and John Luke said, "We have made each other more patient. When you are stuck together you have to be patient with each other or go crazy ... I love how caring Mary Kate is. She is the best wife I could have asked for."
Mary Kate said the key to their happiness is being "able to laugh at each other."
As for starting a family, they are still in college, with John Luke studying as a freshman at Liberty University, a Christian school in Lynchburg, Virginia.
"I love kids so much and am so excited for babies, but we definitely want to wait till we finish school,” Mary Kate said. “That’s why we went ahead and got a dog.”
