— -- Janelle Monae has lost her cousin to gun violence, the singer shared via Twitter Tuesday night.

"Gun violence has struck home," she wrote. "My beautiful 1st cousin was murdered. She was a mother of 3. Loved by her community. #NatashaHays #sayhername."

Monae followed up with a series of tweets mourning her cousin and denouncing gun violence in Kansas City.

According to The Kansas City Star, Monae's cousin, Natasha Hays, was killed in a drive-by-shooting.

Monae is the latest in a recent string of celebrities losing relatives to violence.

NBA star Dwyane Wade's first cousin was fatally shot in Chicago on Friday as she pushed her newborn in a stroller. Days later, on Tuesday, the niece of artist T-Pain was fatally stabbed in Florida.
