— -- Gary Rossington, one of the founding band members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, has suffered a heart attack, prompting the band to cancel some upcoming shows.

"As Gary recuperates after suffering a heart attack late last week, the band regrets to announce that they’ll be canceling two upcoming performances. Full refunds are available at points of purchase for Friday’s show in Terre Haute, IN and the Mt. Pleasant, MI show will be rescheduled in 2016," the band wrote on its official Facebook page on Tuesday.

"Gary is currently resting at home with his family and is expected to make a full recovery," the band added.

Rossington, 63, is one of the last original members of the iconic band that was once fronted by lead singer Ronnie Van Zant. The band formed in the mid-1960's and is known for classic hits like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird." At the band's height, three members, including Van Zant, were killed in a plane crash in 1977.

The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
