Prince William and Wife Kate Announce Baby's Due Date
As with the first pregnancy, Kate is suffering from severe morning sickness.
LONDON — -- Prince William and his wife Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have announced that their baby is due in April 2015, providing them with a fourth anniversary present of sorts. They were married on April 29, 2011.
The couple did not reveal whether they are expecting a boy or girl, but the palace ruled out twins, making today's announcement using the word "baby."
“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in April 2015,” palace officials wrote in the press release.
Kate, who has battled severe morning sickness since the pregnancy was announced Sept. 8, continues to be affected by hypermisis gravidarum, but her condition is "steadily improving," according to the statement released by Kensington Palace.
Kate was last seen in August and has had to cancel a number of engagements due to sickness, including her first solo foreign tour to Malta on behalf of the queen. Prince William went in her place.
The duchess plans to return to engagements for the first time on Tuesday, welcoming the president of Singapore and his wife with the Duke of Cambridge for their state visit with the queen. They will then travel to Horse Guards Parade, where the president will receive a ceremonial welcome. William and Kate visited the president and Mrs. Tan on the first leg of their Asian and South Pacific Jubilee Tour to Singapore in September 2012.
Kate is also planning to attend the Wildlife of the Year Awards Ceremony at the Natural History Museum Tuesday evening. Kate is a patron of the museum. The queen will be holding a state dinner for President and Mrs. Tan at Buckingham Palace, but The duke and duchess are not expected.
The baby will be the second for the royal couple, joining 1-year-old George. The baby will be fourth in line to the British throne after grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William and big brother George. It is called "an heir and a spare," with George in direct line to the throne and the new baby his alternate.
