Sinéad Secretly Wed Weeks Ago

August 17 -- Irish pop star Sinéad O'Connor has attracted enough attention for several lifetimes, so it's not too shocking that she lay low for her second marriage.

The singer — whose colorful past includes a stint as a Catholic priest, a declaration that she was a lesbian, and, most famously, the tearing up of a photo of the pope on live television — reportedly married British reporter Nick Sommerlad in Ireland in a secret ceremony three weeks ago.

According to BBC News, the service was attended by a handful of close friends.

The couple, who met in Dublin, Ireland, where Sommerlad, 27, works for the Press Association news agency, announced their engagement in June.

The news of her engagement was followed by word that she was pulling out of Wotapalava, the first pop music tour planned to highlight gay artists. Organizers ended up canceling the tour, whose lineup included The Pet Shop Boys, Soft Cell, and Rufus Wainwright.

The 35-year-old O'Connor, who has two children from her first marriage, has had several highly publicized affairs with journalists, having split most recently with diarist Dermot Hayes after a two-year relationship.

Besides the 1992 pope-photo-ripping controversy, O'Connor also drew fire for refusing to perform in New Jersey if the American national anthem was played before her appearance, prompting no less than "Chairman of the Board" Frank Sinatra to declare that he'd "kick her ass."
