Kate Moss Settles Libel Suit
May 11 -- Pouty supermodel Kate Moss will receive an undisclosed sum and a public apology from London's Daily Mail after settling a libel suit Friday over a 1999 story alleging she had shown up for a fashion shoot under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The Daily Mail is sorry for distressing Moss with a story titled "What's Wrong With Kate," said the paper's lawyer, Rebecca Jackson.
"Any reader of the article would have been left with the false and completely unfounded impression that Kate Moss had attended a photo session whilst incapacitated by either drink or drugs and was unable to perform her contracted services," the British beauty's attorney, Gerald Tyrell, told reporters.
He said that the Mail now accepted that Moss had not even attended the photo session, let alone behaved in the way described.
Moss, 27, has confessed to struggling with alcohol and drug abuse much of her adult life, making her favorite headline fodder for the Brit press. Moss once told a magazine she began smoking marijuana and drinking at the age of 12 and did not walk down a catwalk sober until 1999.
