Combs: 'No More Puff Daddy'

March 29 -- Rap Mogul Sean Combs says his life is going to change in the wake of his acquittal on gun possession and bribery charges — and that may start with his nickname.

The rapper, known as both "Puffy" and "Puff Daddy," told MTV in a television interview that he hopes to make a clean break from his past reputation by taking on the new monker: "P. Diddy."

"No more Puff Daddy — the first week in June we're going to have a name-change ceremony," Combs told the music television network. "I'm not doing it as serious as Prince, [but] I just want something fresh. … I'm rocking with P. Diddy now — my man Biggie gave me that name."

Biggie Smalls, or Notorious B.I.G., was a close friend of Combs, and the most famous rapper on his Bad Boy Records label, before he was killed in a 1997 shooting. Combs has paid tribute to the slain rapper in numerous songs and is still close with his family.

Combs has worked under the name P. Diddy in the past. Most recently, he is credited under the nickname on a new single, "Let's Get It," by Bad Boy rapper G-Dep.

Due out around the time of his planned renaming is Thank You, a gospel album the rapper has long worked on with Grammy-winning gospel singer the Rev. Hezekiah Walker, as well as R&B singers Brandy, Faith Evans, Carl Thomas, 112, Kelly Price, and Joe.

Combs said he aims to bring some high-profile guests to his party.

"Bill Clinton, I like his style," Combs said. "He is a survivor, they went at him, he is still standing. I'll probably have Elton John sing 'Still Standing,' you know. You know to get it really, really spicy."

Whether his business partners, fans, and the media can adapt to writing Sean "P. Diddy" Combs remains to be seen — but the rapper said he will be flexible.

"And you can call me P., or you can call me Diddy, or you can call me P. Diddy, you know what I am saying?"
