Shock Rock KO's Manson Drummer
Nov. 27 -- The destructive finale to Marilyn Manson’s Saturday night show in New York sent drummer Ginger Fish to the hospital with a broken collarbone.
Despite the fracture, Marilyn Manson’s official Web site (marilynmanson.net) reports, “He is feeling fine and will not miss any shows. The tour continues in Detroit Tuesday night.”
Witnesses told the New York Post that the drummer, whose real name is Kenny Wilson, fell off of a raised platform as he and Manson attempted to destroy the drum kit at the end of the show. Wilson lay on the floor as the other musician left the stage and wasn’t removed for about half an hour, when the lights came on and paramedics took him away, according to the paper.
This isn’t the first time that Wilson has paid the price for the mayhem of a Manson show. In 1996, he was smashed in the skull by the base of the singer’s microphone stand, bringing the show to an abrupt close after four songs.
Manson has said in interviews that Wilson is the quietest band member and doesn’t drink or do drugs. At 34, he is also the oldest member of the group.
The shock rock quartet is halfway through a North American tour in support of Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death), released Nov. 14. The band heads to Britain in January to kick off the European leg of its tour.
