Nov. 20, 2008 — -- Brett Dennen has a sound unto himself. He's one part folk, one part rock and a whole lot of soul. Dennen and his band are about to head out on a multi-city tour across the country, promoting his new album "Hope for the Hopeless."

"I'm a big fan of the '70s singer-songwriter types, and I also have a deep love for world music. My music is kind of like folk-rock with a world-music twist," Dennen said.

These days, the 29-year-old singer-songwriter is quite busy, especially since he has been dubbed by Entertainment Weekly as a "guy on the rise" and by Rolling Stone as a "top-ten artist to watch." He also had his song "Ain't Gonna Lose You" featured on the ABC drama "Grey's Anatomy."

Dennen and his band have toured extensively across the country, opening for musicians like John Mayer. But the "Hope for the Hopeless" tour will be his first major run after the release of his album.

And you can expect something extra at a Dennen show -- a call to action. At every live performance, Dennen introduces local nonprofit organizations on stage as a way to help them gain visibility and support. He has started his own organization, as well, called Love Speaks, in the hopes of "using the power of music to make change." Find out more at www.lovespeaks.org.

"We try to make it irresistible for people to get involved," he said. "We get them all riled up and then there's a nonprofit right there."
