Transcript for Catching up with Chance the Rapper live on 'GMA'
I am here with the man of the all those kids in the front row and everyone here in central park, so excited for chance the rapper. "The New York Times" has called you one of hip-hop's greatest signature stars of the decade. You're a three-time grammy award winner, and we are all so happy you're here with us here in Thank you. Thank you. Thank you very much. It's pretty remarkable as you read up on everything you have accomplished. You're 26 years old, which is pretty phenomenal, and you have made it your mission to make your hometown of Chicago a better place for everyone, for the next generation. You have donated more than $1 million, which is pretty remarkable, to Chicago public schools. You have committed donating another million dollars to Chicago mental health services. Yeah. Why is mental health care such an important issue for you? Mental health and mental wellness are extremely important to me and everybody because we all know people that are affected by it. We can all be affected by it, and recently my nonprofit social works donated $1 million toward the my state of mind initiative. So six different mental health facilities, orthodox and unorthodox in Chicago all received 1 money thousand dollars -- $100,000, and we received a pipeline for mental health facilities in Chicago to have, a directory to gain access. We need that now more than ever. Thank you for your service, and you support the Chicago public school system because you say education is the most important investment anyone can make. What do you hope to accomplish? I just hope to close the disparity between the funding gaps in some of the, you know, wealthier districts and some of the not as well off districts. I don't know. It's national television, but yeah. Just trying to make -- trying to make it fair. You want to close the gap. Yeah. Trying to close the gap and make it fair. I came into the rap game hating on school, and now I, like, go to schools once a week. It's a huge change, but yeah. I love that. Let's talk about the rap game. Your new album can called "The big day." Yes, ma'am. Where did the title come from? So the title the based off of the best day that's ever happened to me, my wedding day, and -- Aww. Shoutout to my wife. I love my wife. And yeah. It was just a beautiful day. Even more so than the actual wedding part, the reception was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, some of the best dancing I have ever seen. That's carried across, and I know we're on national television, but can you show our rings though? We're both out here shining right now. Yes. All right. You have got another baby on the way. Congratulations.
