Transcript for Female trumpeter to make history at Harry, Markle wedding
We are back now with the latest on the rehearsals under way this morning. You see them there and another historic first, an elite team of military trumpeters from the band of the household cavalry will play during the sear upon and for the very first time a woman will be a part of that group and Michael is live with her in Windsor. Good morning again, Michael. Good morning, Amy. I am here with Lance corporal Kate Sandford and she is making history, the first female trumpeter at a royal wedding. How does that feel for you to hear those words and know that you're making history. It's really exciting, Michael. I mean, I feel very proud to be picked to perform on the day. It is such a prestigious honor for you, for your team so how are you preparing? We've been preparing quite diligently throughout the past few weeks rehearsing the fanfare so they go as smoothly and seamlessly on Saturday. One thing that may help you is your husband is playing alongside of you. Yes. So how is that for you two. Really lovely aspect. We met in the band five years ago and married in December and we both are very excited to be performing together for the wedding. As you say you got married in December which means you're a newlywed so what kind of advice do you have for Harry and Meghan? Oh, gosh, the day goes so quickly, just enjoy it. Enjoy every bit of it and women, girls and women around the world are going to be watching you. You're going to inspire so many when they see you play. What kind of message do you hope they get from it. Any young female can do what I do. You just have to be prepared to work for it but the opportunities are there and you can achieve them, whatever you want to do. Whatever your goal, you really can. You really can. A great example of that and a lot of people are probably saying, she should play. You have to be commissioned to play. You just can't get on TV and play the trumpet so I asked if I could play the trumpet and the Lance corporal gave me a look like I'm out of my mind so we'll leave that alone. Lance corporal Sandford, congratulations to you. Amazing what you're doing. You're making history.
