Transcript for Spotlight on rising AAPI community members
Now to a new project we're excited about in honor of asian-american pacific island heritage month. We are putting a spotlight on up and comers in the aapi community with the "Gma" inspiration list, legends like Kristi Yamaguchi, and Kevin Kwan and Margaret Cho have picked their favorite movers and shakers. The list debuts on Monday. I'm revealing my pick early. Take a look. It's Simon Kim. He's the owner of the Michelin steakhouse coat. And like most restaurants, we know they were hit hard by the pandemic, and Simon chose to support his community raising money for asian-americans charities in the midst of the rising hate crimes supporting black-owned businesses last summer as protests across the country called for racial justice, and giving a portion of his profits to a local food pantry to help feed hungry new yorkers. Coat I'm happy to say it was able to survive the pandemic. The restaurant is up and running again, and Simon was even able to open up a new restaurant in Miami, something he planned to do pre-pandemic. I chose Simon because he has chosen to continue to give back even when it's hard, and I just love that spirit of giving and community. So you can check out our full "Gma" inspiration list on Monday on goodmorningamerica.com. Great choice. Really cool project. Absolutely. And coming up, mother's day
