All week long we are meeting people from around the country who turned their part-time pursuits into a full-time passion and now they're competing for money to help move that business forward, it's time round of "Second act showdown. We're joined by mahisha Dellinger. She's going to share her business advice with today's contestant. Welcome, mahisha. At the end of the week, she'll decide whose company she'll support with $5,000. Today's contender has worked as a college administrator for 15 years, and now he's mastering the art of turning his side hustle into a second act. Let's meet today's entrepreneur. Hi, my name is Jeremy. I'm from Michigan. The product I created design by daddy custom cakery, we're one of a kind cake boutique. It started it as an idea from my daughter. I was watching videos on YouTube of cake decorating. She climbed up into my lap and she saw a cake that was on YouTube, and she said, dad, make that cake for me. You don't tell your little princess, no. I found a couple of recipes online and just decided to give it a try. It turned out amazing. Took it to a birthday party, I told people I made it. They kept looking at me like I was crazy. Eventually, they believed me. Design by daddy custom cakery was borne from there. Wow, those cakes are beautiful. Jeremy, welcome. Thanks so much for being with us. So now's your opportunity to convince mahisha to give you that $5,000 at the end of the week. So what's your pitch? So Julia child said a party without cake is just a meeting. I consider myself the cake ninja, and really what that means is my sole purpose is to create one of kind edible work of arts. For me design and flavor go hand in hand. And our cakes are just as delicious on the inside as it is beautiful on the outside. So you're not going to find boxed mixes, I make everything from scratch and that ensures that I know every ingredient that goes into every cake and I can customize it to almost any flavor profile. Your investment would allow me to create a separate design space to run from my business. And probably more importantly, you'll have my wife's undying appreciation because she'll finally get her kitchen back. All right, mahisha, what is your advice you have for Jeremy to take his cake business to the next level? A few things, Jeremy. First of all, your work is phenomenal. Super, super, super impressed. First thing I'd say, you need to network, network, network. How do you do that now with social distancing? You do that all via social media. So I want you to find five influencers that are known for celebrating, having parties and I need you to design a cake free of charge for them and you have to really dig into their likes and their style and create something that they'll love and offering your services for free. You always have to have built into your budget money for gifting and the best way to get your cakes in front of a lot of eyes is to partner with key influencers and take care of them well. You'll become part of the inner circle and the word will travel. My daughter's birthday is next week, I'm ready for one. Mahisha Dellinger on Instagram. Okay, so number two, partner with local, amazing caterers that you can connect with, that every time they have an event that you're their cake partner of choice, that will take you further than if you try to go it alone, I think that's very important for you. And then also, forward thinking. Looking forward to what's past, because you're in the service industry, providing a cake, but you want to become -- have the ability to make money in your sleep. So I want you to look at other products that you can do after, creating kits that you can sell in specialty stores, like whole foods, DIY kind of cakes kits that work with your level of creativity, how wholesome your ingredients are. And create even some videos to show how them how to take care of the cakes. So that's something that you can consider. Wow, those amazing ideas, mahisha. Jeremy, what do you think of them? I think those are frankly amazing ideas and things that I can definitely implement right away so thank you so much. Awesome. You know, those were phenomenal. Jeremy, thank you for joining us today. Your cakes are beautiful. Can't wait to see you take it to the next level. We'll have you back at the end of the week with all of our contestants to announce who the winner is of the $5,000. Mahisha, wow, you're incredible. We are very excited about seeing you again tomorrow and the rest of the week. We're going to meet our next contestant in our "Second act showdown" tomorrow. Thank you all of you. We appreciate it.
