Transcript for An inspiring message of love we could all use
We're very excited it's faith Friday here. She put her hands together, she's excited about today's guest. Presiding bishop of the episcopal church, Michael curry. He's written a new book called "Love is the way: Holding on to hope in troubling times." Bishop curry, what a perfect title, perfect book for these times, what kind of love are we talking about? You're talking about a specific kind of love. Yeah, and thanks for having me with you. I'm talking about the kind of love that you find in the scripture, you find it in the new testament, you find it in the hebrew scriptures, a particular way of love, a love that's unselfish, sacrificial, that seeks the good, the welfare of oirs, as well as the self. And that way of love is not as much -- is not a sentiment, that's a commitment. It's not an emotional reaction, it's a proactive way of engaging others in the world seeking what is the good. Do all the good you can in every way you can, that's the goal of this kind of love. What do you hope people can take away actionably take away from the words you've written? You know, I think, I really do hope in our own way, one, make a decision that I'm going to work to become a person of love, unselfish, sacrificial, seeking the good of others as well as myself, that's a decision and it's an important one. The second one is, how can I support that way of love? One, get in a relationship with god, whatever your faith is, whatever your tradition is, get in a living relationship with god who the bible says is love, so that the source of love is actually god, nurture that relationship in prayer and reading the scriptures and studying and all that kind of stuff and then, next, find a community of support, and if you can't find one, create one. That's really what, what churches and synagogues and mosques, that's part of what they're about, their communities of support because it's hard to love in a world like this. And then, make a decision, each day, about something that you can do intentionally that's loving. Wow, and your words of truth and passion just gave me chills the entire time you were talking. I'll put my hands together again. Thank you so much, bishop curry, for joining us. Please come back. I sure will. Up next, we'll give it the old college try right here on
