Transcript for 40 percent of consumers start their holiday shopping before Halloween
Thank you so much. All right, shifting gears here, 40% of consumers start their holiday shopping before Halloween. So before you hit the mall or take advantage of free shipping this Columbus day weekend, we are filling you in on the hot items to buy and the ones that you should wait on, so "Good housekeeping's" Lori bergamotto is here with the retail details which is very important. I'm not much of a shopper myself but when I go, I want to get it done. Okay. You want to save big. That's right. And so we're going to play a little game with you today. Okay. To figure out which sales are the good ones for Columbus day weekend. Are you ready? I'm ready. Okay, so let's talk mattresses. Should you buy a mattress this weekend or maybe wait because the deal won't be so good? I'm going to say wait on the mattress. I'm sorry, sir, you're wrong. Okay. Okay, so this is -- There's still time. Great time to buy. Three more chances. Great time to be. We see a lot of big retailers like Macy's, JCPenney offering 60% to 70% off top label brands. Also you can find other ones online. Nectar is a great brand offering $100 off orders over $500. I will say make sure to read the fine print because as with any sale over a holiday weekend, there are some exclusions. Time to get a new mattress. Cozy up for the winter. Exactly. Okay. The next category is going to be tech, gadgets, phones, tablet, buy or wait? I think I know this one, wait, right? Ding, ding, ding. Correct. So you do want to wait because the best time to buy this sort of thing is Black Friday. That's when we'll see the biggest dip in sales, and that's when, you know, last year 165 million Americans went in store and online to buy all sorts of electronics. So you want to wait. The good news, it's coming right around the corner. I actually remember from your previous report. It's like Black Friday, cyber Monday, that's the time for electronics. Exactly, exactly. So next category is accessories, so shoes, handbags, earrings, really right up your alley. Totally. I'm just going to channel my wife on this one when it comes to handbags and accessories, just buy, buy, buy. Very good, yes. This is an excellent time to buy accessories. We're seeing retailers like Nordstrom offering up to 70% off. Asos online up to 80% off and everlane is doing up to 60% off with something really cool called a choose what you pay sale, so it's really fun. Perfect. Really fun. Your wife will enjoy it. Or you can buy her a gift. The last is travel. Everybody wants a little escape, a little vacation. I'm going to say buy now on this one. I'm sorry again. You're not correct. People have holiday plans. I know, but this is -- it's not good news. It's a time to wait because you want to wait until cyber Monday and what is called travel Tuesday, which is the day after cyber Monday. That's when we see the biggest dip in sales. I'm out of time. Lori bergamotto, thank you very much. Always a pleasure. Get your deals before Halloween. There you go.
