Best Moments From the 2012 Emmys

Sept. 23, 2012— -- intro: This year's Emmy awards kicked off with sweltering heat, fabulous red carpet looks and Jimmy Kimmel hanging out with TV's biggest women in a bathroom. "Modern Family" was a big winner in the comedy category and "Homeland" almost took home all of the drama awards. There were emotional speeches, fun speeches and some downright bizarre ones. Almost every winner was cut off by the walk off music, except for Kevin Costner who accepted an award for "Hatfields & McCoys."

One skit showed Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, who plays Lily on "Modern Family," terrorizing her fellow cast members. Actor Kim Jeong even makes a cameo as the "new Lily." In one scene, Aubrey eats a chicken sandwich with two pickles, a Chick-fil-A signature, in front of Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Ferguson freaks out about the sandwich, with Stonestreet having to hold him back.

"Did you get that where I think you got it?" he asks.

"Yup. This is what I'm going to eat at my wedding. What are you going to eat at your wedding?" Aubrey said.

Ferguson is openly gay and was recently engaged to Justin Mikita. Chick-fil-A's president Dan Cathy spoke out in June about his franchise's "support of the traditional family." Cathy said, "guilty as charged" when it comes to accusations that his company is actively opposed to gay marriage.

Seth McFarlane took the stage to present the award for best reality show host but as he started presenting, there was basically silence. McFarlane was at the wrong mike and had to rush across stage to the correct mike. But the award for best save undoubtedly goes to the "Family Guy" creator.

quicklist: 4title: Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Amy Poehlertext: When Julia Louis-Dreyfus scored the Emmy for the Emmy for best actress in a comedy for "Veep," her acceptance speech started out a little awkward. Louis-Dreyfus pulled out a piece of paper and began to thank NBC. But there was one problem. "Veep" is on HBO. She looked into the audience at fellow nominee Amy Poehler, who, in a clear set-up, ran on stage to switch speeches. Louis-Dreyfus went on to thank the "Veep" folks and said sweetly, through tears, that she doesn't see anything funny about her being the vice president of the United States.

But at the end, she said, "And Amy Poehler should have won." Wait, what?

quicklist: 5title: Jon Stewart Wins Best Variety Seriestext: Jon Stewart took home his tenth consecutive Emmy for best variety series for Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," much to the dismay of fellow variety hosts Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon. Stewart made his way to the stage after literally and hilariously being dragged to the ground by his fellow contenders. "The Daily Show" host then joked that he shouldn't have done a skit with Fallon, who is "clearly in better shape" than him.
