July 26, 2011 — -- Realtors are very interested in the trend of making your home more green. Over 1000 Realtors participated in a survey conducted by Homegain.com and some of the top recommended projects included installing CFL or LED lights, painting with low VOC paint, using auto turn-off power strips and using programmable thermostats.

However, the top 3 recommended projects are:

Caulking these spaces can eliminate the heat leaving your home during cold weather. It can also limit heat coming into the home during warmer periods. By eliminated the external elements, you will be spending less money and energy on air conditioning and heating within your home.

Native plants require less water and fertilizer in your backyard. This eliminates a lot of excess water and fertilizer use. What's good for the environment is also good for your pocketbooks. Native plants will also increase the wildlife in your backyard. Also, the more native plants you add, the more you help battle air pollution.

Air filters remove dust, smog, smoke, and exterior bacteria from your home. Energy efficiency and the life of your heater will also both increase.
