Ali Larter's Agua Fresca

A Refreshing Liquid Treat

In her debut cookbook, "Kitchen Revelry," actress Ali Larter shows that, while looking effortless takes some effort, cooking is not about being perfect—it's about having a great time! Try Larter's agua fresca recipe for a drink your guests will remember.


  • Cheesecloth
  • 4 cups peeled, seeded, cubedripe cantaloupe (from 1 medium cantaloupe)
  • 2 cups water
  • ¼ cup loosely packed basil leaves
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2½ teaspoons agave syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • Cooking Directions

    Set a large strainer over a large bowl. Line the strainer with the cheesecloth. Combine 2 cups cantaloupe, 1 cup water, 2 tablespoons basil, 1½ tablespoons lime juice, and 1¼ teaspoons agave syrup in a blender. Blend on high until the mixture is as smooth as possible. Pour the mixture into the cheesecloth-lined strainer, pressing gently on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Repeat with the remaining cantaloupe, water, basil, lime juice, and agave.

    Discard the solids in the strainer.

    Pour the cantaloupe agua fresca into a pitcher, add enough ice cubes to chill the drink, and serve over ice.
