Emeril Lagasse's Ham and Gruyere Waffles
Heavenly Holiday Breakfast
Christmas morning can get busy between gift opening and testing, but don't let breakfast be an afterthought. Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse shared his kicked-up holiday breakfast recipes on "Good Morning America" to make your holiday as delicious as possible. Try his recipe for Ham and Gruyere Waffles below and turn your morning meal into the star of the show.
Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and black pepper together in a medium mixing bowl.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, melted butter, buttermilk, club soda, and thyme.
Gradually whisk wet ingredients into dry ingredients.
Beat egg whites with an electric mixer to soft peaks. Using a large whisk, gently fold whites into the batter.
Preheat your waffle maker.
When the indicator light comes on, pour 3/4 cup of the batter onto each grid of the waffle maker. Working quickly, sprinkle about 1 tablespoon of the ham and 1 generous tablespoon of the cheese over each waffle. Close and flip the waffle maker, then cook until waffles are golden and crisp, 6 to 7 minutes. Repeat cooking with remaining batter. Keep waffles warm in a preheated oven until ready to serve.
Waffles are delicious on their own, or spread with softened butter and serve with maple syrup.
