Apple, Sage and Walnut Stuffing

Thanksgiving decorations are fine, but this holiday is all about the food. Katie Brown shared two bonus holiday recipes -- her Roast Turkey and Apple, Sage and Walnut Stuffing recipes.


  • 1 1/2 cups celery, 1/2-inch dice
  • 1 cup shallots, 1/2-inch dice
  • 8 tbsp. butter
  • 1 1/2 lbs. Italian sausage links
  • 1 1/4 cup walnuts
  • 2 cups Granny Smith Apples, 1/2-inch dice
  • 1/4 cup parsley, minced
  • 1/4 cups rosemary, minced
  • 1/4 cups sage, minced
  • 6 cups herbed bread stuffing, cubed
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Cooking Directions

    Preheat oven to 325° F.

    Over low heat, sauté shallots and celery with 2 tablespoons of butter until soft, 7 minutes. Transfer to large bowl.

    Cook sausage through in same pan, about 10 minutes. Slice 1/4 -inch thick and add to celery mixture.

    Toast walnuts on cookie sheet, about 10 minutes. Roughly chop walnuts and add to mixture.

    Cut apples into cubes and add to mixture. Add minced herbs to mixture. Add the bread stuffing and toss to mix.

    Add chicken broth and 6 tablespoons melted butter, mix thoroughly.

    Place in a buttered casserole dish and cover with foil. Bake 30 minutes covered, and then another 10 uncovered.
