And right now to the deadly attack in Jerusalem overnight. The first time worshippers have been rgts thatted in a synagogue. Alex Marquardt is there. Good morning. Reporter: Good morning, George. This is the deadliest attack in Jerusalem in years. Four Israelis have been killed and reports of one American as well. And tension in the city is sky high. Given the fact it came in a synagogue when jewish were going to pray, it's raised fears of a religious war. Just after 8:00 this morning, surrounding a synagogue after shots rang out. Coming into the synagogue. And we heard gun shots from downstairs. We heard one shot, two shots, then a flurry of shots. At least five or six or seven shots. Reporter: Four worshippers dead at the hands of two Palestinian attackers. Minutes after the rampage started, the attackers, cousins from east Jerusalem were shot dead by police. An act of pure terror and senseless brutality and murder. Reporter: The attack comes amidst the worst tension in the city in years. Centered around the mosque on a site that's one of the holiest places in Islam and judaism. Palestinians accuse Israelis of provocations. And they say they have been inciting religious violence, leading to deadly attacks against Israelis. No florid Palestinian group claimed responsibility, but hamas applauded the attack. Palestinian president Mahmoud abbas condemned the attack, but said Israel has been inciting violence. Prime minister Benjamin netanyahu has vowed as he says, to respond with a heavy hand to the brutal murder of Jew who is came to play.
