Jan. 13, 2010 -- Question: What is homeopathy, what are some homeopathic remedies and are they truly effective?

Answer: Homeopathy was developed in Germany over 200 years ago by the physician Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. He made an interesting observation in that, if you give a substance to a healthy person, it can bring up symptoms of disease, so he surmised that if you give a substance to the diseased person, it can actually lead to a cure.

So he also articulated a different fact in homeopathy, and that is the law of dilutions. So homeopathic remedies consist of substances that are diluted in a sequential manner.

The actual potency of the remedy is inversely related to the concentration -- so actually, the more potent the remedy, you may not find the molecule of the actual substance. It is thought that the substance may have a imprint or memory in the water molecule.

Now, homeopathy is very detailed. In the initial consultation, the homeopathic physician may go into details of the life history, the health history, emotional and other components of the person's history.
