— -- Question: What Are Some Of The Most Common Causes Of Low Back Pain?

Answer: Some of the most common causes of low back pain relates to four major structures in your low back. Injury or degeneration, any one of these structures, can cause symptoms of low back pain. They include the muscles in your back, the bones or joints on either side of your spine, as well as the disc and the nerves in your lower back.

When patients experience pain from the muscles in their back, this is generally considered a low back sprain. This can last anywhere from six to eight weeks, but usually improves over time.

The joints in the patient's back can also cause symptoms. This is generally caused by buildup of arthritis from those joints.

Degeneration in the patient's disc, the discs are shock absorbers for your spine, can also cause symptoms of low back pain.

Finally, there are the nerve roots. These are the nerves that exit your spine. Compression of these nerves can cause symptoms of low back pain, as well as leg pain, which is typically described as sciatica.
