— -- More than 3.4 million Americans suffer from visual impairment, according to the National Eye Institute, and it is estimated that three quarters of vision loss is either preventable or treatable.

While it is important to get an annual eye exam to assess your eye health, it is also important to engage in good eye health practices to prevent disease and to know the warning signs of more serious eye related conditions so you can seek proper treatment.

Prevent Blindness America: Prevent Blindness America is a national non-profit organization that promotes health and safety of eyes through vision screenings, education campaigns, and advocacy programs.

American Academy of Ophthalmology: The American Academy of Ophthalmology is a professional organization that provides ophthalmologists the latest news and research in eye health issues.

National Eye Institute: The National Eye Institute is a government organization that provides educational material on eye disease prevention and advances in treatment for eye related issues. The NIH is part of the US Department of Health and Human Services.
