Aug. 24, 2009— -- Question: Is there any way to try out monovision contacts before I make a decision on my lens implants?

Answer: It's certainly reasonable if a patient is considering monovision -- that is, one eye seeing distance and one eye seeing up close -- to try this visual arrangement with a contact lens trial prior to having cataract surgery. We would want to know that the patient is happy with this, can tolerate it, and doesn't experience any significant blurring with both eyes being used together before we go ahead and proceed with surgery.
