Aug. 24, 2009— -- Question: Is it okay to buy reading glasses from the drugstore, and how do I figure out what strength I need?

Answer: Reading glasses from the drugstore can be wonderful to keep around the house for their inexpensiveness, when you need to see something at a particular distance. But they are set at one particular distance. They do not correct all eye errors and they certainly don't correct astigmatism. So you might have a situation where they help to do computer work or reading, but they're not perfect. In that case you would want to see your eye care professional and see if we can get a specific prescription for you to do those close-up tasks.
