Aug. 24, 2009— -- Question: My eyes burn after using artificial tears. Is there anything I can do about that?

Answer: If your eyes burn when you put your artificial tears in, it could be a couple reasons for that. It may be that over time, within a few days or a week, that stops happening. Or if it continues you may find that if you put your drops in your refrigerator and cool them, they're more soothing when you put them in your eye.

If this is not helping over time, then you may ask your eye doctor if you could use two drops. One to prepare the eye for the second drop that your doctor feels that you need. By waiting five minutes after the first drop, the second drop may not sting at all. You certainly want to use the products that your doctor feels will help you and the stinging issue certainly can be resolved.
