July 1, 2009— -- Question: How soon after eating a meal can I exercise?

Answer: If you're looking to exercise after eating that's gonna be so varied, it's so individual. Some people have stomachs of steel and you can literally eat your meal, go out, do your workout, go out, do your swim, without cramping up. So you want to experiment and you want to experiment in an environment when it doesn't really matter. You don't want to go out for that long run if you've never experimented with that before.

So try it first to know if you do start to cramp up you can immediately turn around, come back home, but it's all gonna be very individual. [For] most people 30 minutes to an hour after they work out -- it's gonna be ample time to then do their cardio. Other people, though, they may need to do it more on an empty stomach. So see what works for you.
