March 16, 2009 -- Question: Can green tea and other antioxidants help prevent prostate cancer?

Answer: So, green tea and antioxidants have been explored for association to prostate cancer based on the observation that, in Asia, men have lower rates of prostate cancer. There have been a couple of population studies that have looked to determine an association between green tea, antioxidants and prostate cancer. Some of these studies have found a reduced risk of prostate cancer, while other studies have not found any association to decreasing prostate cancer risk.

Therefore, because the findings are inconsistent, there is no general recommendation to consume green tea or take green tea supplements or increased antioxidants to reduce the risk of prostate cancer. General recommendations would be to have moderate consumption of green tea for overall health.
