February 1, 2009 -- Question: Is it true that lack of sleep might lead to weight gain?

Answer: There are fascinating studies on this issue now, of how sleep, physical activity and eating are related. And more and more of the studies are suggesting that disturbed sleep or lack of sleep leads to disregulation of eating, so people really don't have the normal controls over eating they might otherwise, and ultimately this leads to weight gain. So it's a very good idea if people are trying to control their weight, to try to get as normal a sleep as they can.
