Japanese Royals Cancel Plans to Attend Royal Wedding

March 18, 2011— -- The government says Japan's crown prince and princess will not attend the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton next month following a destructive earthquake and tsunami.

The Imperial Household Agency said Friday Crown Prince Naruhito and Crown Princess Masako initially planned to attend the April 29 wedding. But the royal couple have decided to stay in Japan following last week's deadly earthquake and tsunami in the north of the country.

Police said Friday more than 6,500 people have been killed and more than 10,000 are missing after the 9.0-magnitude quake and tsunami.
