— -- The photograph of a man carrying a small child and running alongside freed hostages as police put an end to a standoff in East Paris has captivated social media.

The image showed the man as he appears to run for cover surrounded by police and hostages. The identity of the man and child - and their circumstances - remains unknown.

Alleged gunman Amedi Coulibaly took hostages in a French supermarket earlier today. Police stormed the market just as a second standoff with the gunmen suspected in the Charlie Hebdo massacre came to an end about 20 miles outside of Paris.

French President Francois Hollande announce three hostages from the store - along with Coulibaly - are dead.
