— -- From that perfectly fitted tee to those trusty sneakers and the baseball cap you just can’t live without, here’s how you can make your everyday summer wardrobe staples last for the long haul.

Katie Brown, editor-in-chief of Yahoo Makers, has the scoop on some tried and true maintenance tips for these “home hacks” to keep your clothing fresh and feeling as good as new.

Favorite T-Shirt

“Take your favorite T-shirt wherever you see a stain, and take a little baby shampoo,” Brown told ABC News. “Work it in there and work your stain away wherever it is. You want to do it gently. Put it in some kind of tub. Let it soak, let it mix around. I usually let it sit there for a good four or five hours. Then, instead of putting it in the dryer or hanging it, you want to get yourself two towels.”

Lay the T-shirt out and place one of the towels over it. Then roll the ends together tightly.

“One it’s rolled up, you’re just going to press,” she explained. “Then you roll it out again. Just let it sit there until it’s dry and you are good to go.”

Baseball Cap

“You want to get yourself a good Tupperware container with a great lid,” said Brown. “Then you just take a little bit of your liquid detergent, put it right in there with the water. Put your baseball cap in there, and get shaking.”

Once you’re done, grab a blown-up balloon and place the cap over it.

“This is going to keep the shape,” she added. “Just let it dry like that. It’s going to smell great. It’s going to be clean.”

Sneakers

“This is a great way to get those bad odors out of your tennis shoes,” Brown said. “Take a little bit of essential oil, mix it in with some baking soda and it absorbs all the odors. But with that little hint of essential oil, you’re also giving it some good smells. Pour it straight in and give it just a little bit of a shake.”

Let that sit overnight, and then “shake that baking soda right out of there and your shoes are ready to go,” she added.
