Emu Halts Highway Traffic as It Runs Free as a Bird

— -- Drivers in Israel certainly had an interesting excuse for being late to their destinations on Sunday.

In what appeared like a roadrunner straight out of a cartoon, an emu escaped from a private farm and hit the open road, making his daring dash for freedom down the busy highway in Herzliya near Tel Aviv.

The bird successfully halted traffic and confused passerby slowed down to stare in shock as the animal speedily passed.

The emu was eventually caught and safely returned to its owner.
